Welcome to tinyurl.nl
After I saw the site tinyurl.com, I wondered what else could be done with this principle. Instead of just redirecting the visitor to a new location, you could also take note when this happened and use that information to see which URL's are most popular, where people are coming from, etc.
You can argue that this information can also be obtained from the logging provided by most webservers, and you are right. However, via this site, the information is collected more carefully and it is easier to compare information from various sites, especially if you do not own them but still pass on references to others.
In the end, it was also a nice exercise in creating a site, borrowing bits and pieces from the net and hopefully presenting something usefull to some of you out there.
By it's nature, this site requires registration: you do not just enter a new URL, you can modify them later, correct any errors and obtain the statistics. Another (important) reason for registration is the fact that I run this site on borrowed resources. Still, I don't assume that this site will attract the same traffic as its .com companion
In order to maintain good performance, accounts of users who registered but did not confirm through the activation message will be removed two months after activation.
